Pleroma is an API-only server implementation of OStatus and ActivityPub protocols and TwitterAPI based on a following stack: Elixir, Phoenix, PostgreSQL.
The mission of the Pleroma project is to create a robust and high-performance implementation of the OStatus protocol that is easy to deploy and configure.
The decision not to render HTML on the server side is intentional, because there are already TwitterAPI clients such as Twidere, AndStatus and Pleroma FE. There is no need to spend time writing templates and waste performance on rendering and serving HTML. This precious time and effort may be dedicated to writing tests and documentation which are very important.
