I organise the preservation and hosting of the beloved Latin dictionary, Whitaker's Words
Description
Over the last few years, I have organised the preservation of the beloved Latin dictionary, "Whitaker's Words".
The software is written in Ada, a computer language which Col Whitaker helped to create in his retirement. My aim is to keep the software working even as the platforms it runs on change underneath it. I have put together some more modern webpages and other collateral material, and I have spent several man months tidying up Whitaker's code, and merging in the maintenance work done by others.
I hope to be able to cover some of my work, the hosting costs, and to pay a tech-savvy Classics student to write a test-suite for the code to make it resilient against mistakes introduced by future changes.
I am trying to gently and ethically monetise the various things I have been doing for free.
