About Us

We are a non-profit fully volunteer run community group in operation since 2014 dedicated to providing education and resources to encourage learning and teaching skills in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). The Ballarat Hackerspace provides tools, connections, community and other resources to help improve the skills of its members and the community as well as encourage a culture of participating in technology advances, rather than passively using them.

We run casual social sessions, regular workshops, community meetups, and encourage growth in the community in the broader Victorian goldfields region of Australia centring around Ballarat.

We are generally open for public walk-ins on Tuesday evenings, Friday day times and Saturday day times however full-time members can use the hackerspace at any time. Come in for a chat, participate in show and tell, share some knowledge, or just tinker on your own projects — no matter how BIG or small, and no matter your skill level. You do not need to be a member to pop in and check the place out.

More information is available on our website.

How donations are used

All donations go towards the upkeep of the hackerspace and consumables (e.g. laser tubes for our laser cutter, 3d printer filament, etc.). The Ballarat Hackerspace is entirely operated by volunteers who do not take any payment for their time and in fact pay the same membership fees as any other 24x7 members.
