Description

blitcp is an open-source file copy engine for Python. It moves data between local disks, remote servers over SSH, and cloud storage (S3, Azure, GCS) — with deduplication, xxhash verification and block-order I/O.

I'm an infrastructure engineer working on enterprise backup systems. blitcp came out of that work: overnight jobs that ran until morning not because the hardware was slow, but because the copy was serialised in the wrong place. It started as a script for my own transfers and grew into a CLI and a GUI.

It is, and stays:

  • Apache-2.0 licensed
  • free, with no paid tier and no features held back
  • free of telemetry — no network calls beyond the transfers you ask for

What support pays for:

  • a Windows code signing certificate, so downloads stop triggering SmartScreen warnings
  • hosting for blitcp.dev
  • disks for the published benchmarks

If blitcp saved you an evening of waiting on a copy, that's what this is for. If not, a star on the repo or a well-written bug report helps just as much.
